We know shark are apex predators. Turns out their antibodies are, too. University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health researchers are studying nurse sharks as a way to fight COVID-19.
Aaron LeBeau, a professor at the university and lead researcher for the project says: “Because shark antibodies are so much smaller, they can get into nooks and crannies of the COVID-19 spike protein that human antibodies cannot recognize. So in theory, you can administer a shark antibody to a human and the immune system will recognize it as itself.”
Maybe we will know in 2 to 5 years!
